Matt has handled thousands of criminal matters during his career as a prosecutor.
After graduating law school from Georgia State University College of Law, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office in Douglas County, GA from 2013 to 2015. During this time he handled a wide spectrum of complex felony cases at every stage from preliminary hearings to trial.
In 2015, he moved home to Augusta and worked as an Assistant Solicitor General with the Richmond County Solicitor General’s Office. As a result, Matt has extensive knowledge of all aspects of misdemeanor prosecution, especially DUI. He has been trained by law enforcement in DUI detection and investigation and handled hundreds of DUIs.
Matt has argued criminal law in front of the Supreme Court of Georgia. In October 2016 he successfully argued for the State in Roberson v. State, 300 Ga. 632 (2017).
MILITARY EXPERIENCE: Tested in Combat and the Courtroom.
Matt received his undergraduate degree at the University of Wyoming on a full Army ROTC Scholarship. He graduated in 2003 with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and commissioned into the U.S. Army as an officer in the Armor Branch. As a tank commander and platoon leader he deployed with the 11th ACR in 2005 to FOB Iskandariyah, Iraq for a one-year combat deployment. He had a second deployment to Kuwait in 2007. After five years of Active Duty, he was Honorably Discharged from the military and returned to Georgia. Today, Matt is a proud lifetime member of the VFW. He is passionate about serving veterans and will do everything to assist fellow veterans, those currently serving on active duty, or their families.
