Former Prosecutor
As a former assistant district attorney in Georgia, I have gained invaluable experience in criminal felony matters, regularly prosecuting cases at every stage from preliminary hearings to trial. I also have extensive knowledge in misdemeanor prosecution, dealing with traffic citations and traffic law.
As a former prosecutor and now as a criminal defense attorney, I have handled hundreds of DUI cases. I have completed the same DUI detection and investigation training as law enforcement, allowing me to better guide my clients.
Professional Military Experience – Proud To Be A Military Veteran Helping Other Veterans
Originally from Martinez, Georgia, Matt received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming on a full Army ROTC Scholarship. He graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and commissioned into the U.S. Army as an officer in the Armor Branch. His first duty assignment was with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) in Ft. Irwin, California.
In 2005, as a tank commander and platoon leader, he deployed with the 11th ACR to Forward Operating Base Iskandariyah, Iraq for a one-year deployment. During this deployment, he and his platoon were regularly engaged by enemy forces in combat. For this deployment he was awarded the Army Combat Action Badge and the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. In 2007, as part of G3 Training and Operations for 3rd Army, he served a second year-long deployment at Camp Buehring, Kuwait.
After five years of active duty, he was honorably discharged from the military at the rank of captain and returned home to Georgia.
In 2010, Matt entered the Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, Georgia, where he received his juris doctorate in 2013. After graduating, he served as an assistant district attorney for the Douglas County, Georgia District Attorney’s Office. In 2015, Matt returned to Martinez and worked as an assistant solicitor general for the Richmond County Solicitor General’s Office in Augusta, Georgia. During this time, he also served in the Richmond County Accountability Court Program. He enjoyed this role with Veterans Court and Drug Court Programs.
Matt has practiced law before the Supreme Court of Georgia. In October 2016, he successfully argued for the State in Roberson v. State, 300 Ga. 632 (2017).
Today, Matt is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He proudly serves as the Post Commander of VFW Post 12190 in Evans, Georgia. He is passionate about serving veterans and will do everything to assist fellow veterans, those currently serving, and their families.
